Right now, the only thing we collect from you is an email address, and only if you type it in. This page explains what we do with it. The short version: we use it to build and promote Cairn, and we don't sell it or hand it to anyone else to use for their own purposes.
This site is operated by Forest Lane Ventures, Inc., a New York C corporation, which we refer to below as "Cairn," "we," or "us." If you have a question about anything on this page, write to privacy@cairnlegal.net.
We use it for our own business purposes in connection with building, launching, marketing, selling, and providing Cairn. Concretely, that includes:
We may combine your address with information that is publicly available about the organization its domain belongs to, for the internal purposes above.
Every marketing email we send will have a working unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops the emails; see "Your choices" below if you also want the address deleted.
We do not sell your email address. We do not rent, trade, or otherwise disclose it to any third party for that party's own marketing or other purposes. There is no advertising network, data broker, or partner receiving it.
A small number of service providers process it strictly on our behalf and on our instructions, for example the company that hosts this site and the service we use to send email. They are contractually limited to providing that service to us and may not use your address for anything of their own.
The only other circumstances in which your address would leave our control:
Cairn is a United States product. If you are visiting from outside the US, we set no cookies at all, and the signup form isn't shown to you. We work out where you are from your device's time zone, so if you are a US visitor abroad you may see the site this way too.
For visitors in the US, we use HubSpot to tell how many people come to the site and where they arrived from. Those analytics cookies are set when you arrive, and we don't ask your permission first. We set no cookies of our own, and we don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies at all.
If you'd rather we didn't count your visit, your browser can block or clear cookies for this site; every major browser has the setting under privacy. Blocking them won't stop you signing up or reading anything here.
We keep your email address while Cairn is operating or until you ask us to delete it or unsubscribe. If we abandon the product, we delete the list.
Whatever state you live in, you can ask us to:
Email privacy@cairnlegal.net from the address in question, or use the unsubscribe link in any email. We'll take care of it within 30 days and won't ask you to justify the request. We won't treat you differently for making one.
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you rights to know, delete, and correct the personal information a business holds about you, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing." For completeness: in the preceding twelve months we have collected only the identifiers described above, and we have not sold or shared personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA. You can exercise your rights at the address above.
Cairn is a tool for litigation professionals. This site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us an email address, tell us and we'll remove it.
The site is served over HTTPS and the signup list is held in access-controlled systems available only to people at Cairn who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but the amount of information at stake here is deliberately small.
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information we already hold about you, we'll email you about it before it takes effect rather than relying on you to re-read this page.
